CMS Women's Cross Country Takes First Place at Paul Short Run

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team had a dominant performance at the women's college brown race at the Paul Short Run, hosted by Lehigh, taking first place with 82 points, well ahead of second-place George Washington with 214 points, on Friday afternoon.

The Athenas ran against teams from all three divisions, with Lynchburg finishing third (second among Division III teams). NYU was seventh with 292 points, and Emory was 13th with 384 points. 

CMS had five of the top 34 finishers (out of 395 runners), led by Natalie Bitetti, who came in third with a time of 20:57.3, behind only Annika Urban of Emory and Eve Feuerbach of Division I Holy Cross. Meredith Bloss was 11th with a 21:15.8, and Anika Kimme earned a top-20 finish in 16th with a 21:30.4, edging her previous PR by 2.5 seconds set two weeks ago at the UC Riverside Invitational. 

Angie Gushue was the fourth Athena to cross in 22nd place with a time of 21:45.0, and Elle Marsyla finished off the winning score as the fifth Athena in with a time of 21:57.9, trimming nine seconds off her PR set at UC Riverside.

Mallorie Jenne added a 22:16.7 to come in 58th, trimming 16 seconds off of her previous best. Riley Capuano was a top-100 finisher in 22.28.2, placing 73rd, and Laura Zimmer was just outside in 103rd with a 22:44.6. 

CMS will be back in action next Saturday at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational.
