Harmon Earns All-America Honors to Highlight CMS Women's Cross Country's Performance at Nationals

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Sophomore Riley Harmon earned All-America honors with a 36th place finish as the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's cross country team ended in 20th place at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday morning at Tom Sawyer State Park.

Harmon becomes the 16th All-American in program history, a list which was most recently joined by Bryn McKillop in 2016 and 2017. Only Angela Jacquez (2001, 2002, 2003) and Cindy Nagle (1981, 1982, 1983, 1984) have been All-American more than twice, a list which Harmon has a chance to join with two more top 40 finishes as a junior and senior. 

CMS finished with 449 points to place 20th overall, while Johns Hopkins, WashU and Williams finished in the 1-3 spots with 125, 138, and 168 points respectively. 

Harmon's final time was 22:09.8, putting her four seconds ahead of the All-America cutoff in 40th place, which was earned by Caroline Shipley of Bowdoin (22:13.7). Junior Abigail Johnson was also in the top 100 for CMS with a 93rd place finish, clocking a final time of 22:49.8.

Sophomore Sophie Gitlin was the third scorer for the Athenas, finishing 136th overall with a time of 23:06.1. Fellow sophomore Brooklyn Button came in 175th place with a time of 23:23.9 and junior Dulcie Jones was the fifth scorer for CMS in 191st place with a time of 23:27.0. 

CMS returns all of its top seven runners next season as it will be poised to improve on its 20th place finish next year.
