Dulcie Jones Captures SCIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - After her strong performance in a season-opening race at the Biola Invitational, junior Dulcie Jones was named the SCIAC Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced today.

Jones was the first Athena to cross the line in the 5K race, finishing 20th among college runners (from all three divisions) with a time of 18:48.23, which led all Division III competitors. She helped CMS finish third overall out of 22 teams, behind only scholarship programs UC San Diego and CSU San Marcos in the top two spots.

The strong opening race for Jones is encouraging for the Athenas' hopes of finishing as SCIAC Champions for the tenth year in a row this fall. CMS graduated three of its top seven runners who competed at the NCAA Championships last year, including its top two (Malea Martin, Natalie Marsh), but Jones gave an early indication that she is ready to step up and be at the Athena pack this season.

Jones and CMS will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to the UC Riverside Invitational.
