CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Malea Martin was part of her fourth SCIAC title in four years with the CMS women's cross country team this past weekend, as the Athenas, ranked No. 2 in the West Region, defeated No. 1 Pomona-Pitzer by 22 points, placing seven of the top 14 runners in the race.

Martin finished fifth overall and second on the Athenas to earn All-SCIAC honors, earning a top-five finish at the conference championships for the third year in a row (after not even being in the CMS top seven as a freshman). Her efforts helped CMS win its ninth straight league title, dating back to the 2010 season.

When not running and earning SCIAC All-Academic honors as a dual major in government and literature, she is actively involved with several non-profit organizations on campus and off campus, including United Way, the Mgrublian Center for Human Rights and Amnesty International.

Her passion for human rights has also led her to volunteer work with Liberty in North Korea (LiNK), a grassroots organization in North America devoted to the North Korean human rights and humanitarian crises, buildOn, an organization which strives to build schools in some of the economically poorest countries on the planet, and as a treasurer for the United Way Youth Board of San Luis Obispo County.
