Athenas finish fourth at Biola Invitational

FULLERTON, Calif. – It was not long for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps men's cross country team to see first place after finishing in the top spot an the Biola Invitational in Ted Craig Regional Park. The women's cross country team took fourth place behind DII #17 Cal Baptist, Point Loma, and NAIA #2 Biola. The Stags had a point total of 35, which was 28 points lower than runner-up Cal Baptist. The Athenas on the other hand had 79 team points, scoring higher than the first place Cal Baptist by 36 points.

The Stags as a whole ran a good time on the 8k course. Senior Joshua Sealand (HMC) was the highest finisher amongst the Stags, taking fourth place with a time of 24:32.82. Seniors Kyle Lund (HMC) and Nico Banks (CMC) took sixth and eighth, respectively, with times of 24:38.05 and 24:46.27. The Stags overall saw six runners finish under 25:30 and 11 finished under 26:00, with five runners finishing within the top 15. The team's eighth man, junior Kyle Suver (HMC), finished 31st overall and was ahead of every other school's fifth racer.

Junior Bryn McKillop (SC) was the highest finisher amongst the Athenas, taking third place in the 5k race with a time of 17:02.38 while senior Carmen Mejia (SC) was second with a 13th place finish (17:29.96). Seniors Jen Lehr (SC), Caroline Willian (CMC) and sophomore Malea Martin (CMC) finished 21st(17:51.69), 22nd (17:52.04) and 23rd (17:53.03), respectively, and senior Rachel Mow (HMC) took 29th with a time of 18:07.95.

The cross country teams will race again on Sept. 17 at the UC Riverside Invitational in Riverside, CA. The event will start at 7:30 a.m.
