Cooper McKenna Earns First-Team All-America Honors, Kulick on Second Team

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Cooper McKenna captured first-team All-America honors from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, while Christina Kulick was named to the second team, and Mia Adsen and Maddy Menard were honorable mention honorees, the organization announced this week.

McKenna was the leading scorer for the Athenas with 40 goals on the year. She scored at least one goal in 24 of 25 games this season, including the last 21 in a row, capped off by multi-goal efforts in each of her last six contests. She began her rookie campaign with a goal against top-ranked USC, and closed it out with four straight two-goal games, including Whittier in the SCIAC Semifinals. She also had the game-winning goals against Cal Lutheran (with one second left) and Whittier (with a minute left) during the regular season. 

Kulick tied for second on the Athenas with 34 goals on the year, while also adding 15 assists and 23 steals. She was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week twice, including after a big four-goal effort in an 8-7 win over Cal Lutheran, and had three straight SCIAC hat tricks in wins over La Verne, Chapman and Redlands. Defensively, she had six steals in a win over Chapman and picked up a key steal with 15 seconds left to set up the winning goal in an 8-7 win over Cal Lutheran. 

Adsen also had 34 goals for the Athenas, as well as 17 steals and 10 assists, and was named the SCIAC Offensive Player of the Week after she scored with two seconds left to break a tie with Whittier at the Redlands Invitational. She had 13 multi-goal games, including hat tricks against Whittier and La Verne, and two different stretches of three straight two-goal performances. She also had two goals and two assists in a key road win over Cal Lutheran. 

Menard capped off her career by leading CMS in both assists (26) and steals (39). She was the SCIAC Defensive Player of the Week after picking up seven steals in a win over Redlands, and also had five steals in a key road win over Cal Lutheran. She also had three-assist games against Redlands and La Verne, and two-assist games six times. 

CMS finished the year with a 16-9 record and a 12-2 mark in SCIAC, marking the most league wins the program has ever had, and the best winning percentage since the 1997 team finished 7-1 in SCIAC play.
