CMS Women's Water Polo Drops Non-Conference Game to Brown
CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team stepped out of conference in the middle of a busy stretch of SCIAC games and dropped a 12-2 decision to Brown on Monday afternoon at Axelrood Pool.
With the loss, CMS falls to 11-7 overall on the season, while Brown improves to 17-7 with the win.
CMS trailed 5-0 after the first quarter, but shored up its defense in the second quarter, allowing just one late goal as Brown took a 6-0 lead into the break. The Athenas regrouped at intermission and scored on their first two second-half possessions on tallies from Christina Kulick and Cooper McKenna.
CMS had a couple of chances to cut it even closer, but Brown was able to fight off the brief momentum swing and close out on another 6-0 run to take the 12-2 win.
The Athenas will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Caltech for a 7 p.m. contest at Axelrood Pool as they look to stretch their SCIAC winning streak to six and move to 8-1 in league play. CMS will then travel for a big road contest at Cal Lutheran on Saturday, facing a Regals team it beat 8-7 with one second left, on a McKenna goal, in the first meeting at Axelrood Pool.
