CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team will serve as one of the hosts of the 2019 Claremont Convergence Tournament, featuring 24 teams from around the country, on Friday and Saturday at Axelrood Pool.

CMS, Pomona-Pitzer and La Verne will all host some of the 45 matches which will be played over a span of 36 hours. Action begins at Axelrood Pool at 10 a.m. on Friday (Occidental vs. Villanova) and at 9 a.m. on Saturday (La Salle vs. Sonoma State).

The Athenas will play in four of the matches over the two days, taking on Loyola Marymount on Friday at 1:45 p.m. in its first match of the tournament, followed by Sonoma State at 6:45. On Saturday, CMS faces CSU Monterey Bay at 12:45 p.m., and closes out with Azusa Pacific at 5:45 p.m.

CMS was last in action when it battled through six extra three-minute overtime sessions before coming away with a 7-6 overtime win over Toronto last Wednesday. Amelia Ayala finally ended the marathon match with a goal 29 seconds into the sixth overtime, while freshman Ruth Efe had seven saves and allowed only two goals over the fourth quarter and six extra sessions.
