Trio of Athenas Named ACWPC All-Americans

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced their selections for the 2018 Women's Division III All-America Teams on Thursday, and three Athenas garnered All-American accolades. Jessica Gaffney (CMC) was named First Team in her third-career honor. Roxy Kiessling (CMC) earned Second Team recognition, and Aracelia Aldrete (CMC) received an Honorable Mention nod.

Gaffney earned her third All-American honor after being named Honorable Mention the last two years. This season she was named First Team All-SCIAC in her fourth-straight all-conference selection. She led the team in goals (53), assists (18), and points (71) while also recording 20 steals. She carried a shooting percentage of .414 in her senior campaign, leading the Athenas with 128 shots. Gaffney was a consistent scorer for the Athenas this season, tallying in 25 of CMS' 28 games. Gaffney's 2018 season has featured 16 multi-goal games and eight games with at least three goals.

Earning Second Team honors, Kiessling completed her CMS career with her third-straight All-American honor after being named First Team in 2016 and Second Team in 2017. One of the top two-way players in the SCIAC, Kiessling was in the top-three for the Athenas in goals (35), assists (16), points (51), steals (42), and field blocks (3) through the 2018 season. She was named First Team All-SCIAC the last three years.

Aldrete earns her first All-America nod after being named Second Team All-SCIAC. An offensive threat for the Atheans (40 goals, 14 assists), Aldrete was also strong on the defensive end with 34 steals. Aldrete joined Gaffney and Kiessling as the only Athenas to collect 50 or more points during the regular season. Aldrete scored in all but five games this season and registered 10 games with multiple goals, including two games with a season-high four goals (vs. La Verne - Mar. 10 and vs. Chapman - Mar. 21).
