Bucknell tops CMS 13-7

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's water polo team won the third quarter in the 13-7 loss to Bucknell University. Ellen Perfect (CMC) scored three times in the third quarter for her fifth through seventh goals of the season.

The Athenas got off to a slow start, only scoring once in the first half as Bucknell put on a press on every CMS possession. Sophomore Roxy Kiessling (CMC) found the back of the net with 3:27 on the clock in the first quarter.

In the second half, the Bison relieved the pressure and CMS was able to capitalize. Bucknell scored the first goal off a penalty shot just 15 seconds into the period and then the Athenas scored three goals in a row: Jessica Gaffney (CMC) followed by back-to-back goals by Perfect.

Going into the fourth quarter, Bucknell had too large of a lead for CMS to catch up during the eight minutes of the period. Sophomore Christine Hu (CMC) and Krystal Sung (CMC) each scored in the fourth quarter, Sung's coming after she snagged a rebound from a missed shot.

The Athenas (2-13) continue SCIAC play with Cal Lutheran on March 25 at 4 p.m. at Thousand Oaks, Calif.
