  • End of the Year Awards for CMS

    It has been another outstanding year for Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics. On the largest scale, CMS broke into the top-10 in the Division III Learfield Directors’ Cup. During the 2015-16 year, many of the CMS student athletes were honored for their athletic and academic achievements.
  • SCIAC honors All-Academic Team for 2015-16

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was represented by 201 student-athletes on the 2015-16 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) All-Academic Team. The SCIAC recognizes student-athletes who have achieved at least a cumulative 3.4 grade point average and completed one full year at their institution.
  • Scholar Athletes honored by CMS

    Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athletics would like to congratulate the 17 recent graduates who have been added to the CMS Wall of Fame and the 129 student-athletes who have made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for the 2015-16 academic year.
  • Eleven Athenas and team earn ACWPC All-Academic awards

    The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the teams and individuals earning All-Academic awards with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps coming at fourth nationally in GPA. Eleven Athenas recorded GPA of 3.2 or higher and were honored with the 504 total women’s water polo student-athletes for academic excellence.
  • CMS Athletics 2015-16 Highlight Video

    CMS won 11 SCIAC championships, had 13 teams participate in the NCAA Championships, finished tied for 10th in the Directors' Cup Standings and tallied four national championships (3 individual and 1 team). Take a look back at the 2015-16 year in this highlight video.
  • Kiessling and Gaffney earn All-America Honors

    The Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) announced the selection of the organization's 2016 Women's Division III All-America Team on June 1 naming sophomore Roxy Kiessling (CMC) to the first team and sophomore Jessica Gaffney (CMC) as an Honorable Mention. The All-America Teams are comprised of 30 student-athletes featuring players from 13 institutions. The SCIAC made up 21 of those selections from eight of the nine programs.

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team landed two athletes on the All-Conference teams for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) as announced on April 29. Sophomores Roxy Kiessling (CMC) and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) represent the Athenas on the first and second teams.
  • Athenas win fifth place game in SCIAC Championships

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team ended its season on a two game win streak in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Sunday afternoon. The Athenas beat Cal Lutheran 9-7 to take home fifth place in the Championships.

    On the heels of sophomore attack player Roxy Kiessling's (Honolulu, HI) six-goal showing, the No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges Athenas earned their spot in Sunday's fifth-place match with a hard-fought 9-6 win over the No. 8 Occidental College Tigers.

    A scoreless third quarter for the fourth-seeded Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team sunk CMS as fifth-seeded Chapman won 10-8 on the opening day of the SCIAC Championships on April 22 at Thompson Aquatics Center.

    The No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team faces No. 5 Chapman University in the quarterfinals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Friday, April 22 at 7 p.m. The Championships are held April 22-24 at the Thompson Aquatic Center on the University of Redlands’ campus.

  • Whittier stops Athenas’ win streak

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team won the fourth quarter while mounting a comeback, but ultimately lost to Whittier, 10-7. Prior to the game, head coach Greg Lonzo and the team honored senior Nicole Orozco (CMC) in her final home game of her career.
  • Two more SCIAC wins for women’s water polo

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team notched two wins on Saturday beating Caltech on the road 9-6 and then closing out the day with a tight win over Occidental, 7-6. With the wins, CMS improves to 6-15 overall and 3-2 in SCIAC play, good for a tie of fourth place.

    With the game tied through 24 minutes of play, it all came down to the fourth quarter in the eventual 9-8 win for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team over Redlands on Wednesday night.

    With 2:33 left, Roxy Kiessling scored to give CMS a 9-7 lead over Redlands. Kiessling's goal ended up being the winning margin in CMS' 9-8 win on March 30 at Axelrood Pool.

  • Brown defense holds Athenas to six goals
    March 28, 2016
    Coming off an exciting win last Friday afternoon over Virginia Military Institute, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team struggled to find the back of the net on Monday against Brown University. Despite scoring the first goal of the game and then winning the fourth quarter, CMS fell behind in the middle and ultimately lost 13-6.
  • Determination gives Athenas boost in win over VMI

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team never trailed Virginia Military Institute but the nail-biter of a game saw the score tied four times. Ultimately, the Athenas came away with the 13-11 victory, scoring two goals in the final minute and a half.
  • Cal Lu takes down CMS 14-7

    Cal Lutheran defeated CMS 14-7 on March 23 in Thousand Oaks in a SCIAC match that saw the game get away from CMS in the second half.
  • Bucknell tops CMS 13-7

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team won the third quarter in the 13-7 loss to Bucknell University. Ellen Perfect (CMC) scored three times in the third quarter for her fifth through seventh goals of the season.
  • Good defense keeps Athenas close to Leos

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team came up just short of the University of La Verne 10-9 in the Wednesday night SCIAC matchup. Sophomores Roxy Kiessling (CMC) and Jessica Gaffney (CMC) captained the offense and defense respectively in a game that came down to the last few possessions.
  • Stiff competition from UC programs at Convergence

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team went 1-3 over the weekend in the annual Convergence tournament co-hosted by CMS and Pomona-Pitzer. The Athenas bested Concordia from Irvine, CA 8-4 and lost to Whittier (12-8), UC San Diego (15-1) and UC Santa Barbara (19-1)

  • Season underway with win at Whittier Mini-tournament

    The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s water polo team started the 2016 campaign off with a win over Concordia (9-5) in the Whittier Mini-tournament on Saturday. Also this weekend, the Athenas lost to Azusa Pacific (10-3) in the mini-tournament and the traveled to Long Beach St. and lost 20-5 on Sunday.
