CMS Women's Water Polo plays Chapman in first round of SCIAC Championships

All nine SCIAC teams face off in the conference tournament April 25-27 hosted by Whittier College. The team with three consecutive wins in the tournament will be crowned the SCIAC Champion and the winner advances to the NCAA Championships.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Women's water polo team enters the tournament as the No. 2 seed with a 7-1 record in SCIAC regular season play. The Athenas' only loss was to top seeded Pomona-Pitzer on April 19.

CMS meets No. 7 seed Chapman in the first game at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, April 25. Chapman was the first SCIAC team the Athenas faced this season on March 19 and CMS won the game 14-13 in sudden death overtime. The Athenas trailed by one goal going into the last two minutes of regulation time when senior Alex Toohey tied up the game and forced the first overtime period. Ultimately, senior Candace Filippelli scored the game-winner in sudden death overtime.
