Athenas split on day one of Convergence Tournament
The Athena water polo went 1-1 on the first day of the Convergence Tournament.
CMS 9, Cal State Monterey Bay 8
The Athenas led at the end of each quarter including 5-2 at halftime. Candace Filippelli scored what proved to be the game winner with just under four minutes remaining in the game. C. Filipelli scored two goals as did Alyssa Filippelli and Rose Koper. CMS improved to 2-6 with the win.
The Tritons jumped out to a 8-0 lead in the first quarter. The Athenas stayed within one goal over the remainder of the game, but could not overcome the early deficit. C. Filipelli led the team with three goals and Alex Toohey added a pair.
On day two, CMS takes on Siena College at 11:40 am and Cal State San Bernardino at 6:20.
