Phoebe Madsen, Amanda Walker Repeat as AVCA Division III All-Americans

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Phoebe Madsen was earned a first-team American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America honor for the second year in a row, while senior Amanda Walker earned second-team honors one year after being named to the third team, the organization announced today.

The two All-Americans were joined on the honorable mention All-America team by junior middle hitter Melanie Moore and senior libero Sarah Tritschler, who each made their second straight appearances on the honorable mention All-American list. 

Madsen capped off a stellar CMS career with a strong stats line of 226 kills, 373 digs and 696 assists while playing both the setter and the right-side hitter positions. After sharing the setter duties her first two seasons as a three-rotation player, Madsen became a six-rotation player her final two seasons and ended her career with 2622 assists, 1191 digs and 416 kills, after having only nine kills in her first two seasons. 

Madsen had a spectacular tournament earlier this year at the East to West Battle hosted by Washington University, hitting over .450 at the three matches with triple-doubles against WashU (11 kills, 13 digs, 20 assists) and Juniata (11 kills, 13 digs, 21 assists), while hitting .467 (8-1-15) in a win over No. 1 Emory. She added another triple-double against WashU in the first round of the NCAA Tournament with 11 kills, 19 digs and 26 assists, and just missed another one in her final match against No. 4 Carthage, with eight kills, a season-high 20 digs, and 26 assists. 

Walker had her second straight huge season as a right-side hitter for the Athenas, tallying 367 kills on .370 hitting. She also had 86 blocks on the season, and finished her career with 879 kills and 185 blocks, after having only 105 kills and 23 blocks combined in her first two seasons. Her 407 kills as a junior last year ranks third all-time for a single season in program history, while her 367 this year ranks 11th. 

Walker closed out her CMS career with a flourish, tallying a career high in kills with 24 in her final match against No. 4 Carthage in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. She also had 21 kills in the opening round win over WashU and had a huge day against No. 1 Emory during the regular season with 15 kills in 22 attempts in a 3-0 CMS win. 

Tritschler went over 600 digs on the year (607) for the second year in a row and now has the No. 3 and No. 4 highest single-season totals in program history after also recording 612 last year. Her 1578 career digs also ranks third, despite seeing limited playing time in her first season, when she had 57 digs. 

Moore finished her junior season with 195 kills and 111 blocks. Her .323 career hitting percentage remains on pace to break the school record of .323 for a career, while her 111 blocks places eighth all-time in CMS history for a single season and her 294 career blocks ranks fourth with one full season left to challenge the school mark of 426. 

CMS finished the 2019 season with a 27-4 record after winning its third straight SCIAC regular season and postseason titles. The Athenas have compiled an 85-13 record over those three seasons, including a 31-5 mark in 2017, when they won the national title.
