Phoebe Madsen Repeats as SCIAC Volleyball Athlete of the Year, Three Other Athenas Named All-SCIAC

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior setter/right side hitter Phoebe Madsen was named the SCIAC Volleyball Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row, while senior Amanda Walker, junior Melanie Moore and senior Sarah Tritschler each earned All-SCIAC honors, the league office announced today.

Madsen repeated with SCIAC Athlete of the Year honors after another spectacular season, tallying seven triple-doubles while leading CMS to a 24-3 record and a first-place finish in the SCIAC at 15-1. She did a little bit of everything for the Athenas, totaling 594 assists as a three-rotation setter (6.19 per set), while also adding 304 digs and 196 kills (on .267 hitting), ranking second on the team, as well as a team-high 48 service aces. 



Madsen was also an All-Tournament team selection at both the East to West Challenge at Washington University and the Pacific Coast Classic this season, after winning SCIAC Tournament MVP and first-team All-America honors a year ago. 

Walker is also coming off an All-America season from last year (third team) and continued her impressive play as the Athenas' top hitter. She finished the regular season with 296 kills in 772 attempts (a .267 hitting percentage) and put forth a dominant performance in a win over then-No. 1 Emory, tallying 15 kills in only 22 attempts in a three-set sweep. 

Moore played a critical role in the CMS success this season from the middle, tallying a .285 hitting percentage with 155 kills in 369 attempts, while also totaling 91 blocks for a team-high 1.11 per set. She also tallied 21 aces and contributed defensively with 58 digs despite only playing on the back row when she served. Through three seasons, Moore has a career .323 hitting percentage, which would break the school record of .302 if it holds up through her senior season. 

Tritschler was the leader of the CMS back row from her libero position, totaling 518 digs (5.45 per set) to lead the Athenas. She also had a major contribution as a secondary setter, tallying 170 assists (1.79 per set), as well as 28 service aces. Tritschler was named the SCIAC Specialist of the Week after a strong opening weekend at the Pacific Coast Classic, when she was named to the All-Tournament team, a feat she repeated at the East to West Challenge. 

CMS will open postseason play on Thursday night when it entertains La Verne at 7 p.m. in the SCIAC Semifinals from Roberts Pavilion.
