Amanda Walker Wins SCIAC Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior right side hitter Amanda Walker captured the SCIAC Women's Volleyball Offensive Player of the Week for matches through Sunday, Sept. 15, the conference office announced today.

Walker, who was named a third-team All-American a year ago, earned the honor after her performance at the East to West Battle in St. Louis, hosted by Washington University, particulary in a three-set win over No. 1 Emory. Walker had a dominant effort in the Emory win, tallying 15 kills in only 22 attempts to hit .591 as the Athenas captured a statement win over the defending national champions. She also added 13 kills in a win over WashU and 12 in a defeat to No. 6 Juniata.

CMS came out of the weekend with a 9-2 record in non-conference play, while moving up to No. 2 in the latest AVCA national rankings, behind only Calvin. It is the highest ranking the Athenas have had since winning the national championship in 2017 and holding down the No. 1 spot in the 2018 preseason poll.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it opens SCIAC play with a road match at Redlands, beginning at 7 p.m.
