Arntson, Werner, and Madsen Honored Nationally by the AVCA

LEXINGTON, Ky. - On Tuesday morning the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced their All-American teams with three Athenas being honored. Margaux Arntson (CMC) became the first-ever First Team All-American in CMS women's volleyball history. Mikena Werner (SC) was named to the Second Team for the second-straight season while Clara Madsen (CMC) earned an honorable mention nod.

The honors for the Athenas come just two days before they take the floor in the National Quarterfinals against Gustavus Adolphus in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The First Team All-American honor caps off an impressive awards season for Arntson. In the last two weeks, the senior opposite hitter was named First Team All-SCIAC, the SCIAC Athlete of the Year, First Team All-West Region, West Region Player of the Year, and the Georgetown Regional Most Valuable Player. On the season, Arntson has complied 311 kills with a hitting percentage of .332. Over 99 sets, Arntson has averaged of 3.14 kills per set.

Mikena Werner earned her second-straight Second Team All-America honor, capping off a tremendous career for the libero. Werner enters the National Quarterfinals with 542 digs and is average 4.97 digs per set on the season. In her career, Werner has collected 1,690 digs and has averaged 4.76 digs per set across 355 sets. For the second-straight season Werner was one of the highest honored liberos in the country. While no libero was named First Team, Werner was joined by Lisa Sheldon from Bowdin on the Second Team.

After being named All-Region last week, Clara Madsen was named Honorable Mention All-American. Madsen has be a key part of the Athenas' balanced attack this season. While sharing the setting duties this season, Madsen has accumulated 704 assists on the season and is averaging 6.40 per set. She has also collected 211 digs and a team-leading 48 service aces.

With Arntson and Werner being named First and Second Team, it marks the first time the Athenas have earned multiple All-American honors in a single season.

As mentioned, the Athenas will take the floor on Thursday afternoon in the National Quarterfinals when they take on the Gustavus Adolphus Golden Gusties at 3:00 p.m ET/12:00 p.m. PT in Grand Rapids, Mich.
