Werner named AVCA All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 36th annual All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball on Nov. 15, 2016 and junior libero Mikena Werner (SC) was honored with the spot on the Second Team.

Werner recorded a remarkable 5.76 digs per set to lead the team and the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) in the 2016 season. Individually, she is 24th in the nation, aiding her team to rank seventh in the country at 20.08 digs per set. Werner marks the Second AVCA All-American in CMS program history (2015, Nicole Kerkhof (CMC)) and is the only libero in the First and Second Teams combined in 2016.

Additionally, Kerkhof and junior Shelbi Stein (CMC) earned Honorable Mentions after each of their strong seasons and First Team All-SCIAC selections.

The Athenas finished their season as the co-champion of the regular season in the SCIAC and earned an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. Despite falling in the first round to Colorado College (3-1), CMS put up a 23-4 record on the season.
