Athenas remain undefeated with 3-0 victory over Caltech

PASADENA, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team rolled through Caltech with the 3-0 victory (25-19, 13-25, 25-12) on Friday night in the Braun Gymnasium. The Athenas remain undefeated overall at 13-0 and in the SCIAC at 5-0.

Head coach Kurt Vlasich went with a different starting lineup to get more underclassmen on the floor. Sophomore Kimmy Tuttle (CMC) led the team with 10 kills, followed by freshman Amanda Walker (CMC) and Megan Fuelling (SCR) at eight each.

The Beavers took the Athenas to 21-19 in the first set before freshman defensive specialist Sarah Tritschler (CMC) served for the final three points as sophomore Hannah Grobisen (CMC) made the final kill.

The next set saw CMS go on a 9-to-2 run to finish off the set and take the 2-0 advantage in the match.

In the final set, Tritschler served out the last three points, including an ace, for the straight set win.

Caltech has yet to take a match in the SCIAC this year but was led by Alexa Lauinger with nine digs in the match.

Next up for CMS is a home contest vs. Whittier on Saturday, October 1 at 4 p.m.
