The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas volleyball team continued to set team records in 2016 with another 20-plus win season, going 23-4 en route to a second consecutive Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championship.

The American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) announced the 36th annual All-America teams for NCAA Division III women's volleyball on Nov. 15, 2016 and junior libero Mikena Werner (SC) was honored with the spot on the Second Team.

NCAA run cut short by Colorado College in top-10 matchup

The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball lost a heartbreaker in the first round of the NCAA Tournament to No. 8 Colorado College in four sets (15-25, 25-21, 25-14, 25-22). The NCAA Regional was played in Richardson, Tex. on the campus of UT Dallas.

For the fourth year in a row, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament. This season, the Athenas match up with the seed Colorado College in the first round in an eight-team regional hosted by UT Dallas.

In the Division III women's volleyball selection show on Monday morning, the NCAA announced the field of 64 teams to compete for the 2016 National Championship. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team (23-3) was sent to a Regional hosted by UT Dallas and will face Colorado College (27-5) on Friday, Nov. 11 at 3 p.m. CST (1 p.m. PST).

Blocking gives Regals SCIAC Tournament Final

The Cal Lutheran Regals won the SCIAC Volleyball Tournament Final 3-0 over Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (25-23, 25-19, 25-16). In the three set match, the Regals had just seven errors and recorded 23 block assists while the Athenas had 60 digs.

Athenas look to defend tournament title

The No. 2 seed Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team is set to host No. 3 seed La Verne for the third consecutive year in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s Postseason Tournament Semifinal. CMS enters the tournament on the heels of earning the program’s fourth SCIAC regular season championship, tying with No. 1 seeded Cal Lutheran at a 14-2 record in conference play. The Regals host No. 4 seed Pomona-Pitzer in the other semifinal match.

For the fourth straight year, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team is headed to Cal Lutheran for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Postseason Tournament final. The No. 2 seed CMS bested No. 3 seed La Verne on Thursday night 3-1 (27-29, 25-23, 25-19, 25-16) to advance to the conference final.

The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women’s volleyball team earned the fourth regular season championship in program history with the three set win over Redlands (25-12, 25-11, 25-14) on Saturday afternoon. The Athenas finish the regular season in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with a 14-2 record, to tie with Cal Lutheran for the regular season title.
