Arntson, Stein lead Athenas to 3-1 win over Oxy
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Occidental volleyball team took the No. 11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team to four sets with the Athenas winning 3-1 (25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-12) on Friday night in the Linde Activities Center. With the win, CMS improves to 3-2 in SCIAC.
The match was rife with long points and spectacular digs by both teams. After two sets, neither team was hitting over .200 even though CMS owned the two game advantage.
For the Athenas, sophomore Margaux Arntson (CMC) was the most effective at .423, recording 14 kills on the night. Sophomore outside hitter Shelbi Stein (CMC) had a game-high 15 kills with just three errors.
Five players for the Tigers were in double-digit digs, led by Kandace Korver at 21.
CMS sophomore Mariah Rigg (CMC) tied her single game high of five total blocks during the match.
CMS faces Chapman (7-6, 4-3 SCIAC) today, Saturday, Oct. 3 at 2 p.m. and then returns to the LAC on Oct. 6 to play Redlands.
