CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 11 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps volleyball team made quick work of the Caltech Beavers, winning 3-0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-15) on Thursday night for its first SCIAC win. All but one Athena got in the game and ultimately only one upperclassman started the third set.
Sophomores Shelbi Stein (CMC) and Crystal Anderson (CMC) led the way for CMS with nine kills each and only three errors combined. Freshmen Hannah Grobisen (CMC) and Kimmy Tuttle contributed six and five kills respectively.
From the service line, sophomore Clara Madsen (CMC) and Grobisen tallied four aces each as the team had 17 in the match. Playing in the second and third sets, freshman Jenna McCune (CMC) had three aces and then, as the setter, recorded her first two assists of the season.
For the Beavers, Subhadra Vetrivel, Meghana Pagadala, and Amarise Little each had three kills while Harinee Maiyuran led with eight assists.
The Athenas (4-1) play in the Posada Royal Invitational hosted by Cal Lutheran on Friday and Saturday this coming weekend. CMS faces Life Pacific University, Willamette, Providence Christian, and UC Santa Cruz.
