CMS controls match for win over Redlands
CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's volleyball team beat Redlands 3-0 tonight in Ducey Gymnasium (25-18, 25-23, 25-16). Once the Athenas took the lead in each set they held onto it and dominated the match.
The score for the first game was back and forth until CMS won three points in a row on sophomore Tanner Hoke's serve to put the Athenas ahead by four. The first game was won by the Athenas staying calm and forcing errors by Redlands.
CMS started the second game on an 8-0 tear, again on Hoke's serve. Redlands fought back but were unable to perturb the steady Athenas.
Leading the match 2-0, CMS came out to a slow start in the third set. When the Athenas got the serve back with the score 16-15 not in their favor, freshman Natalie Creekmur served for the remaining ten points to get CMS the win 25-16. Five of those ten points were service aces.
Sophomore OH Audrey Breitwieser led the Athenas with 16 kills while freshman MB Quinn Morrison and freshman OH Nicole Kerkhof were right behind her with ten each.
The Athenas improved their record to 13-3 (5-3 SCIAC) and will host UC Santa Cruz this coming Friday (10/11) at 7 pm.
