
Six Athenas Capture All-Region Honors for Outdoor Track and Field
CLAREMONT, Calif. - Six members of the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the 2024 season, the organization announced.
The four Athenas who earned NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field invitations were bestowed with all-region honors before heading to nationals this weekend to compete. Riley Capuano and Laura Zimmer earned All-Region honors in both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters, Natalie Bitetti captured it in the 1500 meters and 5000 meters and Elle Marsyla earned it in both the 5000 meters and the 10000 meters.
In addition to the four distance runners, the Athenas also had two field athletes capture All-Region, with Antonia Hekster winning for the hammer throw and Madeline Seifert earning it in the pole vault.
Capuano, Zimmer, Bitetti and Marsyla are putting the finishing touches on a season full of honors, as all four were on the CMS women's cross country team that finished fourth at nationals in the fall. Bitetti finished second in the nation individually, Capuano finished 11th and Marsyla finished 27th as all three earned All-America honors.
In the winter, Zimmer joined Capuano and Bitetti on the distance medley relay team that qualified for indoor nationals, earning All-America honors with a second-place finish. Bitetti also came in second in the 3000 meters for her second runner-up finish of the year.
This week, Zimmer enters the 1500 meters seeded second in the country, while Capuano is also in the top 10. Bitetti will run in the 5000 meters, while Marysla earned a bid in the 10000 meters after qualifying at the Azusa Pacific Last Chance Meet.
