Zimmer Moves into Top 10 Nationally in 800 Meters at Pomona-Pitzer Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Laura Zimmer ran a 2:13.00 to move into the top 10 in NCAA Division III this season in the 800 meters, to highlight the performance of the CMS women's track and field team at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational on Saturday at Strehle Track.

Zimmer came in fourth in the 800 with a time of 2:13.00, which places her ninth in Division III this season and fifth all-time in CMS history, with the record of 2:08.03 held by Carmen Mejia, set in 2017. Her time yesterday trailed two runners from the Valor Track Club, and Margaret Trautner of Caltech, who also moved into the top 10 this season. 

In other events, Emily Clarke and Riley Harmon earned top-10 finishes in the 1500 meters, where Clarke was sixth in 4:39.61 and Harmon was right behind in 4:40.55. Chloe Taylor added a 13th place finish for the Athenas as well, in a field of 63 runners. 

Caroline DelVecchio was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing in 15 seconds flat, behind only an international runner from the Philippines, a runner from Fresno Pacific, and another from the S.H.A.R.K.S. track club. Mikaela Lipsky added a 12th place finish in the 400 in 60.68 seconds. 

The Athenas competed with a limited squad at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational, escehwing the distance and field events in the unseasonably warm weather this week.
