Amanda Mell Captures Indoor Track and Field All-America Honors

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Amanda Mell earned Division III Indoor Women's Track and Field All-America honors in the triple jump from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, the organization officially announced today.

With the cancelation of the NCAA Division III indoor championships in March, the USTFCCCA awarded All-America honors to all student-athletes who earned qualifying marks to nationals. Mell earned her invitation on her last jump of the regular season, moving into the top 20 in the nation with her last effort at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier on Feb. 29, jumping 11.68 meters (38 feet, four inches). The mark was her indoor PR and ranked her 15th in the country through the end of the regular season.  

It was the second straight season in which Mell pulled off her qualifying jump on her last effort, after leaping an even 12 meters at the Redlands Last Chance Meet during outdoor season in May to earn her way to the NCAA Division III Championships. That jump moved her into No. 3 all-time in Claremont-Mudd-Scripps history and earned her USTFCCCA All-West Region honors a year ago. 

Mell also helped CMS to three straight SCIAC titles over her three seasons, with last year's narrow three-point win over Redlands (150-147) marking the program's fifth straight league title. Her podium finish in the triple jump (third), fifth place finish in the long jump, and second-place finish in the 4x100 relay made her one of several athletes who helped push the Athenas over the top to the narrow victory, keeping the program's title streak going.
