Amanda Mell heading down the runway for the triple jump

Amanda Mell Earns Invitation to NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Amanda Mell had one of the top 20 triple jumps in the country in NCAA Division III indoor track and field competition this winter, and in doing so, earned an invitation to the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Winston Salem, N.C.

Mell earned her qualifying distance on her last jump at the Seattle Pacific Final Qualifier on Feb. 29 at the University of Washington, jumping 11.68 meters (38 feet, four inches). The jump was a new indoor PR and placed her third at the event, which featured jumpers from all NCAA divisions, and ranks her No. 15 in the country heading into the NCAA Championships (the top 20 earn invitations).

A year ago, Mell used a similar formula to earn her way to the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships in Ohio, earning her qualifying mark on her last jump at the Redlands Final Qualifier (an even 12 meters). She finished 16th at nationals, while also earning NCAA All-West Region honors as well as All-SCIAC distinction in both the triple jump and the 4x100 relay.

The women's triple jump will take place on Saturday morning at the JDL Fast Track, getting underway at 11 a.m. local time (8 a.m. Pacific).
