CMS Women's Track and Field Earns Quality Results at Host Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. - A wide range of scholarship programs descended on the Burns Track Complex on Saturday for the annual Rossi Relays, and the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team responded to the tough competition with some strong showings at its annual host event.

CMS had two of the top four in the triple jump, as senior Amanda Mell lept 36'6.75" to come in third place, while junior Carolyn Weisman (36'4.75") was right behind her in fourth place out of 18 in the field. First-year Brooke Simon was also a third-place finisher in the pole vault, clearing 11'5.75", with sophomore Robin Peterson earning a top 10 finish in seventh at 10'6" for the Athenas. 

Senior Sabrine Griffith came in fifth in the long jump out of 48 competitors with a top distance of 17'6.75" behind only athletes from UC San Diego, Dixie State, Cal State San Marcos and Cal State Los Angeles. Junior Aubrey Egerter was also in the top ten in ninth place for the Athenas at 17'1.25" while Grace Pratt (16'8.75") was in 13th. 

Griffith added another top 10 finish in the 100-meter hurdles in seventh place, finishing in 15.01 seconds, with Egerter in ninth at 15.30 (out of 31). Pratt also had a strong showing on the track, finishing 15th in the 100 meters in 12.80 seconds, with first-year Angela Gagnon not far behind in 19th place in a field of 62 competitors. Junior Bailey Mknelly came in sixth of 24 in the high jump at 4'11.75" for CMS. 

Senior Amanda Gallop was a top-10 finisher in the discus, coming in eighth out of 31 with a top throw of 123'11" for CMS. The Athenas also had two fifth-place relays, with the 4x800 team (Laura Fleming, Sophie Gitlin, Anne Eliiot, Georgia Scherer) coming in fifth of 17, and the distance medley relay team (Scherer, Julia Drooff, Megan Maley, Riley Harmon) taking fifth out of 26.

The Athenas will be back in action for the first SCIAC Multi-Dual on Saturday, March 7, which will be hosted by Whittier.
