Amanda Mell Finishes Fourth in Triple Jump on Day Two of Jacksons/Nike Invitational

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Senior Amanda Mell finished in fourth place in the triple jump with a top distance of 37 feet, 10 inches on the second day of the Jacksons/Nike Boise Indoor Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Boise State University.

Mell was behind only three scholarship competitors to come in fourth out of 17 in the field. Abigail Dargan of host Boise State won the event, followed by Peace Igbonagwam of Seattle Pacific and Bailey Maseda of Division I Utah State. 

Junior Carolyn Weisman was also in the top 10 in the triple jump, coming in eighth with a top jump of 36'11.5" on the day. On Friday, senior Sabrine Griffith came in fourth in the long jump, with Mell in fifth, junior Aubrey Egerter in seventh, junior Grace Pratt in ninth, and Weisman in 11th. 

First-year Caroline DelVecchio qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles on Friday by two-hundredths of a second, performed even better on Saturday to end up in sixth place. DelVecchio ran a 9.05 in Saturday's finals, after a 9.20 in the prelims, and ran in a finals race that included five Division I runners (two from BYU, two from Utah State, one from Boise State). 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it crosses Sixth Street to compete in the Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet, before returning home for the annual Rossi Relays on Feb. 22 at the Burns Track Complex.
