Jones, Johnson Earn Second-Place Finishes for CMS Women's Track and Field

REDLANDS, Calif. - Sophomore Dulcie Jones came in second in the 3000 meters, and sophomore Abigale Johnson was second in the 800, to highlight the performance of the CMS women's track and field team at the Redlands Invitational on Friday.

In the 3000 meters, Jones earned a second-place finish by crossing the line in 11:01.44, as the only CMS runner in the race out of 15 competitors. Johnson was second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.84, while sophomore Theresa Versen was also in the top 10 at 2:28.66, placing tenth. 

The Athenas had six of the top nine in the 1500, with senior Matilda Msall coming in third in 4:52.13. Right behind her was senior Natalie Marsh (4:53.51) and freshman Riley Harmon (4:53.52), separated by just one-hundredth of a second, while senior Malea Martin was sixth in 4:58.70. Freshman Sophie Gitlin and freshman Brooklyn Button came in eighth and ninth place for the Athenas in the 28-runner field. 

The long jump saw CMS place three in the top 10 out of a field of 25. Junior Amanda Mell was fourth with a jump of 18 feet, one inch, with junior Sabrine Griffith close behind with a jump of 17 feet, eight inches, placing sixth. Sophomore Grace Pratt was also in the top 10 (ninth) with a jump of 17 feet, 2.25 inches. Mell also came in third in the triple jump at 36 feet, three inches, with sophomore Carolyn Weisman fourth at 35 feet, 11.25 inches. 

In the throws, Mikaela Gallardo came in third in the javelin with a throw of 107 feet, eight inches, one of four competitors to break the 100-foot mark. Junior Amanda Gallop was third in the discus with a top throw of 107 feet, five inches, as well as third in the shot put at 37 feet, 8.75 inches. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it travels to San Diego to participate in the Aztec Invitational, hosted by San Diego State.
