Jacque Desmond Earns SCIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Award

CLAREMONT, Calif. - For the fourth time this academic year, senior Jacque Desmond earned the SCIAC Athlete of the Week Award in her sport, the league office announced today.

However, this week's award provided a unique twist as she earned one in her second different sport. She captured her first award as a pole vaulter with the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team this spring, after previously winning three as a diver for the CMS Swimming and Diving team during the winter.

Desmond earned the SCIAC Women's Field Athlete of the Week Award this week after taking first place in the pole vault at the Occidental Spring Break Classic on Saturday. In fact, she won the event by a huge margin, with a top clearance of over 11 feet (11'3.75"). Nobody else in the 14-athlete field even cleared 10 feet, as Juliette Lum of Occidental and Amanda Amundson of Saddleback tied for second at nine feet, 10 inches.

During the winter, Desmond was a three-time SCIAC Women's Diver of the Week, before finishing as an All-SCIAC performer in the one-meter and the three-meter dives, finishing in third place in both events.

CMS will be back in action on Friday when it travels to the Redlands Invitational.
