Women's Track and Field Competes on Home Track at Annual Rossi Relays

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team served as the host of the 2019 Rossi Relays and had several top 10 finishes against a challenging field with many scholarship competitors.

The day began with the 4x100 relay that saw the Athenas place sixth with a time of 49.40, with Grace Pratt, Aubrey Egerter, Amanda Mell and Carolyn Weisman handling the baton for CMS. The Athenas followed with a tenth-place finish in the DMR from their "B" team of Sophie Gitlin, Julia Drooff, Olivia Gleason and Natalie Marsh. 

Pratt was the top finisher for the Athenas in the 100 (19th of 61) with a 12.71, while Sabrine Griffith was 13th in the 100-meter hurdles out of 40 with a 15.22. 

In the field events, Bailey Mknelly earned a top 10 finish (ninth) in the high jump by clearing 4'11.75" on her best effort, which led all Division III competitors. Pratt was fifth in the long jump at 17'9.5", while Griffith was in the top 10 at eighth place (17'4.25") out of 39. Amanda Mell, meanwhile, earned her way into the top 10 (tied for seventh) in the triple jump at 35'5.75".

Jacque Desmond, who just recently earned All-SCIAC in both diving events for the CMS women's swimming and diving team, was third in the pole valut with a 10'11.75" clearance in her first action of the spring season. 

In the throws, Amanda Gallop had an eighth-place finish out of 29 in the shot put with a distance of 34'11.25" on her first effort on the day. 

CMS will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Redlands for the first SCIAC regular season Multi-Dual of the 2019 spring season.
