Milers Highlight Women's Track and Field Performance at Pomona-Pitzer All Comers Meet

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team had the top four finishers in the mile, with sophomore Abigale Johnson leading the way for the second straight week, at the Pomona-Pitzer All-Comers Meet on Saturday at Strehle Track.

Johnson came in first place with a time of 5:06.85, one week after coming in fourth (first among Division III competitors) at the Howie Ryan Invitational hosted by the University of Houston. She was followed by Olivia Gleason, Natalie Marsh and Riley Harmon in the 2-4 spots, with Matilda Msall coming in sixth place and Morgan Blevins eighth to give CMS six of the top 10. 

Grace Pratt had a strong all-around performance for the Athenas as well, tying for third place in the long jump with a top distance of 5.40 meters (17'8.75"), while also finishing in the top 10 in the 200 meters with a time of 26.42, the best time of anyone in Division III. Pratt also ended in the top 20 (18th place) in the 100 meters with a time of 13.02.

CMS also had the top two Division III finishers in the triple jump, with Carolyn Weisman earning a third-place finish with a jump of 36'11.75" and Amanda Mell finishing right behind her in fourth place with a jump of 35'10.5". Right behind Pratt in the long jump, meanwhile, was Sabrine Griffith in fifth (17'6"), Mell in sixth (17'2.75") and Weisman in 10th (16'3.75") giving the Athenas four of the top 10 in a 29-jumper field. 

Amanda Gallop achieved three top 10 finishes in the field events, coming in third place in the shot put with a top distance of 34'9", fifth in the javelin (105'3") and seventh in the discus (112'2"). Mikaela Gallardo joined her in the top 10 in two events, coming in sixth in both the shot put and the hammer. In the 400, Julia Droof earned a sixth-place finish with a 1:02.27, while McKenzie Deutsch was two places behind in eighth with a 1:03.03. 

CMS will be back in action next weekend when it hosts the Rossi Relays at the Burns Track Complex on Saturday.
