Bassett Qualifies in Discus at Redlands Final Qualifier

REDLANDS, Calif. – In the final meet before the NCAA Track and Field National Championships next weekend, the No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's track and field team got some last minute work in at the Redlands Final Qualifier. The two-day event began Wednesday and was highlighted by a discus throw from Emily Bassett (CMC). The senior hit a new personal record in the event, throwing her implement a distance of 45.22m (148'4"), solidifying her spot at number two in the CMS record books.

Day Two: Thursday, May 17

On the Track

Though her mark was wind-aided, Tyra Abraham (SC) blew away the competition in the 100 meter dash with a personal record of 11.58, the second-fastest in Division III this year. She finished second overall and was the top collegiate finisher, crossing the finish line seven tenths of a second ahead of the next collegiate runner.

Grace Pratt (CMC) also had a strong showing in the sprint, finishing her 100 meter dash with a new personal record of 12.70.

In the Field

Bassett continued to dazzle in the throwing events in a dominant senior campaign. She won the hammer throw with an impressive 58.72m (192'8"), one of the farthest this season.

Deyana Marsh (HMC) and Aubrey Egerter (HMC) both took part in the heptathlon, placing fourth and fifth, respectively. Marsh earned a total of 3595 while Egerter took home 3184.

Day One: Wednesday, May 16 

Bassett took home the win in the discus, clearing the second-place finisher from Cal Lutheran by over five meters. The mark (45.22m (148'4")) qualifies her for the National Championships where she will compete in the discus throw and the hammer throw. She also improved on her second-best throw in CMS history.
