Bio

Caitlin Bernard is entering her third season with the CMS women's tennis program in 2023-24, and her first as the associate head coach, after contributing to back-to-back national championships in her first two years with the program as an assistant. Sicne Bernard joined the Athenas, CMS has compiled a 54-4 record, and has avenged every one of its four losses later in the season (Emory, Pomona-Pitzer, Chicago) on its way to national titles. 

Bernard joined CMS after a standout playing career which saw her rise to the No. 1 singles position for Indiana University. While at Indiana, Bernard had multiple wins over nationally ranked players and received a national ranking in doubles, after compiling a 28-7 record in 2018 with doubles partner Natalie Whalen. In 2017, Bernard tied for the team lead in singles wins with 25, playing mostly at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions, including a team-best 17 wins in dual matches.

During her time at Indiana, Bernard also received several accolades from the University. She was a two-time Eileen Robinson award winner, recognizing her outstanding mental attitude and distinguished performance in athletics. She also won the Hoosier Award, which is presented to an individual who brings honor and distinction to Indiana University during the academic year, and was one of the recipients of the Indiana Student-Athlete of the Year Award for 2020, despite her senior season being cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In her last two years at Indiana, Bernard also competed in various professional WTA events around the world, including multiple WTA events in Romania, Mexico, Canada, and the United States. Due to various physical injuries, though, her playing career ended after her redshirt senior season in 2021. 

Bernard has also participated in coaching at Indiana University‘s summer camps, Centercourt of New Jersey performance camps, and traveled with internationally renowned coach Rich Reyes around the country with various different players.

Bernard graduated from Indiana with a degree in liberal studies.
