CMS Women's Tennis Shuts Out Redlands, Occidental on Final Day of Regular Season

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team traveled to Redlands in the morning and picked up a 9-0 win, and then returned home to face Occidental in the afternoon and picked up another 9-0 win to conclude the regular season with a pair of shutouts in SCIAC competition on Saturday.

The Athenas end the regular season with a 21-3 record and a 6-1 mark in SCIAC play, and will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCIAC Tournament, where it will face Redlands again in the semifinals on Friday. 

In today's meeting at Redlands, the Athenas won all six singles matches in straight sets after jumping out to a 3-0 lead by sweeping doubles. Gabby Lee and Sydney Lee each won in both singles and doubles, taking an 8-3 win in doubles at No. 2, with Gabby Lee taking a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles and Sydney Lee earning a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1. 

Devon Wolfe also won in both singles and doubles, teaming with Sarah Bahsoun for an 8-2 win at No. 3 doubles and then earning a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles. Audrey Yoon added a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 2, Ella Brissett prevailed 7-6, 6-4 at No. 3, and Sena Selby won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6. Nikolina Batoshvili and Alisha Chulani added an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles.  

In the nightcap against Occidental, Bahsoun and Wolfe won 8-0 at No. 3 doubles, and Wolfe went on to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to complete a perfect match, while Bahsoun won at No. 1 singles. Selby and Crystal Juan earned an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles, with Selby dominating her singles match at No. 4, 6-1, 6-0. 

Brissett and Yoon teamed up for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles, while Chulani (6-2, 6-0 at No. 2), Arushi Malik (6-3, 6-2 at No. 3) and Gabby Lee (6-0, 6-3 at No. 6) added singles wins. 

CMS will be hoping to win its ninth straight SCIAC Tournament, facing Redlands in the semifinals on Friday, hoping to advance to the championship on Saturday and a likely rematch with No. 2 Pomona-Pitzer, which faces Caltech in the semifinals.
