CMS Women's Tennis Falls to Second-Ranked Pomona-Pitzer

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The third-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team tried to claw its way out of a 3-0 hole after doubles, but couldn't pull it off as it dropped a 7-2 decision to second-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The loss snaps a 13-match winning streak for CMS, which falls to 18-3 overall and 4-1 in the SCIAC. Pomona-Pitzer moves to 17-1 overall and 5-0 in league play.

Sarah Bahsoun earned the first singles point for CMS, taking a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 6 to pull the Athenas within 3-1. After Pomona-Pitzer's Nina Ye won at No. 3 to make it 4-1, Ella Brissett prevailed in three sets at No. 4 for CMS (6-1, 6-7, 6-2) to keep CMS in it.

The final three courts all went to three sets, as Crystal Juan and Nikolina Batoshvili both earned splits after dropping the first set, at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively, making a potential comeback feel in reach. However, Maria Lyven was able to take the third set from Juan at No. 1 to get the clinch for the Sagehens, and Pomona-Pitzer was able to add wins at No. 2 and No. 5 to close out the match.

CMS will be back in action in two weeks when it closes out the regular season with matches against Redlands and Occidental.
