CMS Women's Tennis Rolls to Quick 9-0 Win over Babson



CLAREMONT, Calif. - The fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team capped off a 3-0 weekend by sweeping No. 34 Babson 9-0 on Sunday morning at the Biszantz Family Tennis center.

With the win, CMS improves to 8-2 on the season and concludes a busy weekend with a 3-0 record, including a 7-2 win over No. 2 Emory on Friday and a 5-2 win over Division I Bowling Green on Saturday. Babson, which was 2-1 on the year coming into its California trip, drops to an even .500 with the loss. 

Alisha Chulani (No. 1 doubles, No. 3 singles), Gabby Lee (No. 2 doubles, No. 2 singles) and Arushi Malik (No. 3 doubles, No. 6 singles) each had 2-0 days by winning in both singles and doubles, while Devon Wolfe was perfect at No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win. 

In fact, the Athenas dropped only nine games in singles total on six courts. Chulani (6-0, 6-1), Sena Selby (6-1, 6-0 at No. 4) and Malik (6-1, 6-0) each only dropped one game on the day, in addition to the perfect 12-0 from Wolfe. Sarah Bahsoun had a solid effort at No. 1 singles, winning 6-1, 6-2, while Lee captured a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2. 

In doubles, CMS was nearly perfect as well, dropping only four games. Chulani and Nikolina Batoshvili earned an 8-1 win at No. 1, which was matched by Sydney Lee and Gabby Lee at No. 2. Malik and Crystal Juan came away with an 8-2 win at No. 3 to complete the doubles sweep. 

CMS will be back in action on Wednesday for a key Division III matchup with Amherst.
