CMS Women's Tennis Has Three Doubles Semifinal Teams at ITA West Regionals

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team will have three of the four doubles teams still alive on Sunday in the ITA West Region semifinals, with at least one Athena duo guaranteed to play in the finals.

Gabby Lee and Crystal Juan will meet up with fellow Athenas Devon Wolfe and Alisha Chulani in one of the two semifinals, which will take place at 9 a.m. on Sunday at Pomona-Pitzer. Top-seeded Sarah Bahsoun and Nikolina Batoshvili, meanwhile, will meet a Pomona-Pitzer team in the other semifinal.

The two semifinal winners will stay right on the court for the finals at 10 a.m., before the tournament gives way to singles.

CMS isn't new to having doubles teams face each other in tournaments, as it happened the last time the Athenas competed at the NCAA Championships. Bahsoun was part of an Athena vs. Athena doubles championship match, when she and Nicole Tan fell in three sets to Caroline Cox and Catherine Allen.

CMS won't have a singles player in the A flight finals, though, after Bahsoun and Sena Selby made it all the way to the semifinals before falling on Saturday. Juan, though, will compete for the B flight championship after picking up two wins by identical 6-4, 6-0 scores on Saturday.
