CMS Women's Tennis Takes 9-0 Win over WashU

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The top-ranked CMS women's tennis team defended its home court with a 9-0 win over Washington University on Wednesday evening at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

With the win, CMS improves to 14-0 on the season, while WashU, which is ranked No. 19 in the nation, slips to 4-3. 

The Athenas earned a doubles sweep to start the match, with seniors Nicole Tan and Madison Shea earning the first win 8-1 at No. 3. Senior Catherine Allen and junior Caroline Cox added an 8-3 win at No. 1, and the No. 2 doubles team of first-year Justine Leong and senior Anastasia Bryan-Ajania gave the Athenas a 3-0 lead with an 8-4 win. 

Singles saw the Athenas dominate throughout, led by sophomore Sarah Bahsoun, who had a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6. Leong almost had a perfect match as well, but settled for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 1. Allen took a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 2, junior Rebecca Berger won 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3, sophomore Sydney Lee won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4 and Cox earned a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5. 

CMS continued to put up an impressive resume in singles. Leong moved to 20-1 with the only loss to Jada Hart of UCLA at the ITA Fall Nationals. Allen moved to 16-1, with her only loss to Leong at the ITA West Regionals. Cox (11-0) and Bahsoun (10-0) also both remained undefeated in singles this year. 

CMS will next be in action on Friday, when it takes on Bucknell for a 12 noon contest (weather permitting).
