CMS Women's Tennis Hosts Five-Team NCAA Regional Friday-Sunday

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team, ranked No. 2 in the nation, will serve as one of eight regional hosts for the NCAA Division III Championships, welcoming in UT Dallas, Trinity (Texas), Pomona-Pitzer and Linfield for a five-team regional which will be held at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center from Friday-Sunday.

The regional will begin on Friday with Linfield and UT Dallas meeting at 2 p.m. in the opening-round game. That winner will move on to face the Athenas on Saturday at 2 p.m., when Pomona-Pitzer and Trinity will face each other in the other semifinal. The two semifinal winners will square off on Sunday at 12 noon for the right to advance to the NCAA Division III Championship quarterfinals in Kalamazoo, Michigan, which will be held on Monday, May 20. 

CMS enters the NCAA Tournament at 23-1 on the year and is ranked No. 2 in the nation, behind only Emory, which gave the Athenas their only loss back on March 3 at the ITA Indoor Championships. Pomona-Pitzer is ranked No. 5 nationally, finishing as the runner-up to CMS in the SCIAC in both the regular season and the conference tournament.

Trinity is also in the top 20 at No. 17, and captured the SCAC Championship with a 5-2 win over Southwestern (Texas). Linfield comes in at No. 31 with a 17-2 record and a 13-match win streak after taking a narrow 5-4 win over Whitman in the NWC Championship match to earn an automatic bid. UT Dallas has only dropped one match this season, coming in at 11-1 with a six-match win streak after winning the ASC title with a 5-2 win over East Texas Baptist.
