Catherine Allen Wins Second SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week Honor

CLAREMONT, Calif. - Junior Catherine Allen earned the SCIAC Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week honor for the second time this season, the league office announced today.

It marks the fifth time this year that the No. 2 Athenas (18-1, 5-0 SCIAC) have won the SCIAC Athlete of the Week award. Allen won it the first time on March 4 after going undefeated at the ITA Indoor Nationals against three top-10 opponents (WashU, Chicago, Emory). Sophomore Rebecca Berger (Feb. 11), freshman Sarah Bahsoun (March 25) and sophomore Caroline Cox (April 1) have also earned it this year.

Allen captured it this week after taking a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles in a dual match at Redlands on Friday, the only match of the week for the Athenas. She improved to 12-0 in singles in dual matches this season, all while playing at No. 1, while she and Cox also improved to 22-1 in doubles with an 8-2 win.

Allen and Cox are the No. 1 ranked doubles team in the nation since winning the ITA Cup in the fall, and are undefeated against Division III competition. Their only loss came to Division II UC San Diego back on opening weekend (Feb. 10).

CMS will be back in action on Saturday for its final regular season home match, meeting Cal Lutheran at 10 a.m. at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.
