CLAREMONT, Calif. - The second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team continued to dominate opponents on its home courts, taking an 8-0 win over Sewanee on Wednesday morning at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center.

The final singles match at No. 1 between Nicole Tan and Catherine Owen of Sewanee was left unfinished when rain come during its third-set tiebreaker. The rain also canceled the second match of the day for CMS against Bowdoin.

The Athenas are now 13-1 overall on the season and 8-0 at home, where it has outscored opponents by a combined score of 64-4. CMS only dropped two doubles games, as Caroline Cox and Catherine Allen won 8-2 at No. 1, and Tan/Sarah Bahsoun and Madison Shea/Rebecca Berger each won 8-0 at No. 2 and No. 3.

The Athenas then picked up the clinch quickly as Bahsoun and freshman Sydney Lee each won their singles matches 6-0, 6-0. Bahsoun finished off a perfect day (8-0 in doubles, 6-0, 6-0 in singles) at No. 3 to give CMS a 4-0 lead and Lee quickly followed with her win at No. 2 to earn the team clinch.

Shea tacked on another point to the CMS lead with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 5, and freshman Crystal Juan earned a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6. Senior Jessie Cruz then wrapped up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4, before Tan and Owen had even finished their first set, which Owen won 7-5.

Tan battled back from trailing 5-3 in the second set to win the final four games and earn the split at 7-5 in the second. However, the third-set tiebreaker to 10 points was called at the second changeover with Owen holding a narrow 7-5 lead.

CMS will be back in action this weekend when it hosts Williams for an 11 a.m. match on Saturday, a rematch of last year's NCAA semifinal, which CMS won 5-3.
