Three Athenas Make ITA Scholar-Athlete List; Team Also Recognized

TEMPE, Ariz. -  Lindsay Brown (CMC '18), Jessie Cruz, (CMC '19), and Nicole Tan (CMC '20) of the national champion Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team each were selected as Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes for the 2018 season. As a team, the Athenas were recognized with the ITA All-Academic Team award.

Brown, an All-American and team captain, posted a 3.57 GPA during the academic year. She was an Environment, Economics, and Politics (EEP) major at CMC.  

Cruz is an Economics and Accounting major who had a 3.58 GPA in 2017-18. She is a three-year varsity member and during the 2018 season, she registered a 9-1 record in singles matches.

The All-American Tan is a Neuroscience major who had a 3.91 GPA in 2017-18. Cruz and Tan are ITA Scholar Athletes for the second-straight season and this is the first such award for Brown.

In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).

The Athenas had a record season in 2018 winning the national championship for the first time in program history and posting a 29-2 record.
