ITA Names Brown, Allen, and Tan All-America

SKILLMAN, N.J. – Just a couple weeks removed from claiming the first National Championship in program history, the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team was well represented on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III All-America Teams. Catherine Allen (SC), Lindsay Brown (CMC), and Nicole Tan (CMC) earned All-America honors as individuals with Brown and Tan earning additional accolades as a doubles pair.

For senior Lindsay Brown, the individual distinction is the first of her career after making the All-America doubles team last season. During the 2018 season, Brown collected a remarkable 20-2 record during dual matches including two separate win-streaks of 10 matches. Playing in the No. 3 singles slot for a majority of the year, Brown was one of the most consistent players for the Athenas all season long.

Sophomores Nicole Tan and Catherine Allen both repeated their All-America honor from their freshman campaign during their second season in Claremont. The pair shared time in the top singles spot for CMS with Tan playing 15 matches on court one and Allen making 11 starts. On the year, Tan turned in a record of 14-6 in dual matches while Allen posted a similar 15-4 record. Last month, Allen was named the SCIAC's Women's Tennis Athlete of the Year and advanced to the semifinals in the NCAA Individual Tournament.

In addition to their individual honors, the doubles team of Lindsay Brown and Nicole Tan earned their second-straight All-America nod. The duo anchored the top spot in the Athenas' doubles line-up all season long and posted an 18-7 mark in dual matches this season. For their efforts during the regular season, the team earned the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Doubles Tournament, advancing to the quarterfinals.

The Athenas finished the 2018 season as the NCAA Division III National Championships after defeating Emory 5-4 in the Title Match. CMS became just the second team not named Emory or Williams to hoist the National Championship since 2000 (Washington and Lee – 2007).
