Athenas Breeze Past No. 25 Redlands

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The No. 3 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned their 18th win of the season after breezing past No. 25 Redlands in a SCIAC matchup on Friday afternoon. The Athenas opened up a 3-0 lead at the end of doubles, before dropping just seven games across six singles matches. Rebecca Berger (CMC) and Madison Shea (CMC) dropped just one game each in their singles matches, while Jessie Cruz (CMC) and Anastasia Bryan-Ajania (SC) earned perfect, 6-0, 6-0 victories at #4 and #5 singles, respectively.

The Athenas started their strong day in doubles play with Catherine Allen (SC) and Caroline Cox (CMC) earning a point at the top doubles spot with an 8-5 victory. At #2 doubles, Kyla Scott (HMC) and Juliette Martin (HMC) combined to earn the most convincing victory for CMS in the three doubles matches with an 8-2 victory. Nicole Tan (CMC) and Lauren Yamagami (CMC) took the #3 doubles match with an 8-3 win.

Already holding a 3-0 lead after doubles, the Athenas turned in what might be their most dominate performance in singles play this season. No Athena lost more than three games in a match and, as mentioned, Cruz and Bryan-Ajania led the way with 6-0, 6-0 decsisions. At #3 singles, Berger picked-up a 6-1, 6-0 win and Madison Shea claimed a 6-0, 6-1 win at the #6 spot.

At the top spot, Lindsay Brown (CMC) continued her stellar season with a 6-3, 6-0 victory. The win improves Brown to 14-1 in singles play this season. Kyla Scott also turned in a comfortable victory with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the #2 singles match.

With the vwin, CMS improves to 18-2 on the season and 4-0 in the SCIAC. They will be in action tomorrow morning when they travel to Whittier College at 10:00 a.m.
