Nicole Tan and Singapore bounces back with win over Pakistan

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan – Following a tough loss against Malaysia, Nicole Tan (CMC '20) and the Singapore National Team came back with a strong 3-0 victory this morning over Pakistan in their final Pool C game of the Fed Cup. With a 1-1 record, Singapore finishes in second place in Pool C and will avoid relegation from Asia/Oceania Zone Group II.

Tan faced off against Pakistan's Ushna Suhail in a singles match and prevailed 2-1 (2-6, 6-3, 7-5). She had a tough time in her first set, getting called for five double faults and getting out-pointed 30-17. However, she found her rhythm in the second set, denying her opponent in break point opportunities and limiting mistakes. Suhail tested the incoming second year as Tan had to play her best tennis all tournament in the final set to win. She converted all four of her break point opportunities and earned points in 73% of her first serves.

Singapore will face Pacific Oceania on July 21 in the 5th to 8th Place Playoff. The winner of this matchup will go against the winner between New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
