Full singles lineup on All-SCIAC Teams for Athenas

LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. – All six of the singles players for the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team earned all-conference honors from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The First Team honorees included junior Kyla Scott (HMC), and first years Catherine Allen (SC) and Nicole Tan (CMC). Senior Katie Kuosman (CMC), junior Lindsay Brown (CMC), and sophomore Jessie Cruz (CMC) were named to the All-SCIAC Second Team.

The No. 1 ranked Athenas swept through SCIAC play to capture the program's 19th conference championship and seventh consecutive SCIAC title.

Scott has faced five different top-50 players during the 2017 regular season and ended up with the 4-7 record at the top position for the Athenas. She paired with Cruz early in the season for doubles but has since hit her stride with first year Madison Shea (CMC). The Shea-Scott duo held a 4-3 regular season record at either No. 2 or 3 doubles.

In addition to being named to the First Team, Tan was named the conference's Newcomer of the Year. The freshman is undefeated in singles play. When Scott battled with a small injury earlier in the season, Tan stepped into the No. 1 singles position and rattled off wins against Middlebury, Redlands and DII Point Loma Nazarene. Tan pairs with Brown as the Athenas' top doubles team and they have only dropped one match during the season. The lone loss was to Division I UC Irvine's top doubles pair.

Brown also held a perfect record in singles play with straight set wins against each opponent from either court No. 4 or 5. She often is the first to finish her singles match, but Joy Kim from Pomona-Pitzer tested the junior in the final regular season match. Brown battled through to the 6-3, 6-2 win to clinch the eventual 6-3 win over the Sagehens.

Allen is also named to the All-SCIAC First Team after an undefeated regular season in singles play. She and partner Kuosman posted a 19-2 record in dual match play as the Athenas' No. 2 doubles team. Kuosman began the year slowly but then finished with an unblemished singles record since the beginning of April.

Last but certainly not least, Cruz brings fresh legs into the Athenas' singles lineup each match. She holds a 14-2 record in singles play including a win over Williams' 40th-ranked Hannah Atkinson.
