Athenas Tennis remain undefeated

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps women's tennis team continued on its tear over Spring Break with an 8-1 win over Sewanee on Sunday afternoon. The Athenas (11-0) swept doubles and then showcased depth in singles play, dropping just one point at No. 6.

Freshman Catherine Allen (SC) and senior Katie Kuosman (CMC) teamed up for a quick 8-0 win at No. 3 doubles. Junior Lindsay Brown (CMC) and freshman Madison Shea (CMC) put together a dominant performance at No. 1 for another 8-0 win. AT No. 2 doubles, junior Kyla Scott (HMC) and sophomore Jessie Cruz (CMC) wrapped up their 8-4 win to complete the sweep and give CMS the 3-0 advantage going into singles play.

Scott, Allen and Brown were the only players to compete in both portions of the match as junior Bria Smith (CMC), freshman Ana Bryan-Ajania (SC) and freshman Juliette Martin (HMC) stepped into the lineup to fill spots No. 4 through 6.

Allen took her match 6-1, 6-2 and then Brown clinched the win for the Athenas at 6-1, 6-2 from court No. 3.

Sewanee only nabbed three sets off the Athenas and then Meredith Heitland won a match tiebreak at No. 6 for the University of the South's only win of the match.

The Athenas get back on court on Monday, Mar. 20 to take on University of Wisconsin-Whitewater at 5 p.m.
