On to the final day at NCAA Championships for CMS doubles team

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - Junior Katie Kuosman (CMC) and senior Caroline Ward's (CMC) bid for a women's doubles national championship is still alive. The Claremont-Mudd-Scripps teammates won their quarterfinals match at the NCAA Division III Championships on May 27 at Stowe Stadium.

The top-seeded Athenas earned a straight-set win for the second time in as many days, this time 6-4, 6-4 over unseeded Mina Karamercan and Lauren Louks of Tufts University. After winning the first set, the Athenas trailed 2-1 in the second set. Ward and Kuosman jumped ahead 4-2 only to see Karamercan and Louks rally to even the match at 4-4.

Later on, Ward put away the Athenas' win with an emphatic cross-court forehand shot, just by the outstretched racket of a lunging Tufts competitor.

With the win, the Athenas have advanced to Saturday's national semifinals and face third-seeded Aashli Budhiraja and Eudice Chong of Wesleyan University at 11:30 a.m. EDT. Should the Athenas win, they would turn around and play for the national championship at 2 p.m. EDT.

Video and live scoring links along with complete results and tournament brackets for the doubles competition are updated daily on the NCAA Championships tournament webpage as soon as the information becomes available.
